I’m still in Gerrard’s shadows —Dele Alli

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli admits he needs to become more clinical in front of goal if he wants to be considered one of England’s best.

Alli earned Tottenham a share of the points with West Brom on the weekend with a strike in the 89th minute, his third goal of the season.

And the 20-year-old says he needs to hit the net more often if he wants to be compared to hero and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

I’d love to score more goals,” Alli said following the match.

[Steven] Gerrard is a hero of mine and to be put in the same category as him is an honour.

I could have had a few more today.

The one-on-one where I went through with just the keeper to beat, I should have put away and it would have been a different game.”

The England international also took blame for the Baggies opener, admitting he allowed former Spurs man Nacer Chadli too much room.

He was my man at the corner. My goal was just natural instinct because the box was packed and I knew that all the players were on the other side of the goal,” he added.

It was a bit compact so I wanted to put it in the other corner and thankfully it went in.”
