SUPER Eagles’ defender, Leon Balogun remains a doubt for Nigeria’s 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Zambia’s Chipolopolo at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola on October 9 following an injury copped when playing for his German Bundesliga team on Saturday.
Balogun left the pitch very early as his club FSV Mainz engaged Bayer Leverkusen just after only nine minutes. He was replaced by Alexander as the player awaits word from the medical crew on how long the injury could rule him out of action.
Mainz twitter account highlighted the injury but did not report the severity.
“An early substitution for the #Zerofivers as the injured @LeonBalogun is replaced by Alexander #Hack! (9′) #M05B04 0-0.
“Hopefully that earlier injury to @LeonBalogun is nothing serious! (15′) #M05B04 0-0,” @Mainz05en tweeted.
Balogun, 23, has been capped four times by Nigeria at senior level and could have been more but for injuries.
He was invited by the late Stephen Kesh ttowards preparation for Brazil 2014 World Cup but crashed against the stadium’s panel in an international friendly against Mexico. Injuries also ruled him out of most of Nigeria’s futile campaign for the 2017 Nations Cup slot.
