Inter Milan are through to the Champions League semi-finals after a thrilling 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich at San Siro, progressing 4-3 on aggregate.
In stormy conditions, with strong winds and rain disrupting play, Inter held their nerve. Simone Inzaghi’s side overcame a second-half scare to see off the German giants and set up a showdown with Barcelona.
Harry Kane gave Bayern hope early in the second half. The England striker fired a low shot past Yann Sommer after being given too much space in the box, bringing the tie level on aggregate.
But Inter responded almost immediately. Lautaro Martinez smashed home his 150th goal for the club after his header ricocheted off Joshua Kimmich. Moments later, Benjamin Pavard — a former Bayern player — made it 2-1 with a header from a corner.
Bayern struck back again through Eric Dier, who scored his first goal for the club with a looping header over Sommer. The goal made for a frantic finish, with Bayern pushing hard for a winner.
Kane missed a key chance, Muller was denied by Sommer, and Inter’s defence held firm. The hosts cleared their lines desperately in the final minutes, with tension high around the San Siro.
The wind had a major impact throughout. Passes went astray, crosses drifted, and corners became unpredictable. It disrupted the rhythm of the game and made control difficult for both sides.
Inter’s defensive structure was impressive. Their flexibility — with players rotating across positions — gave them an edge. Despite a few lapses, they blocked shots, closed down space, and made key tackles at crucial moments.
Bayern missed Jamal Musiala’s creativity. Thomas Muller replaced Raphael Guerreiro and did well, creating chances and showing his experience. But his late header was saved, and he may have played his final Champions League game for the club.
Harry Kane scored but didn’t shine. His overall display was sluggish, and he lacked influence in key moments. As Bayern’s marquee signing, more is expected in games like these.
Lautaro Martinez, on the other hand, was exceptional. His goal, hold-up play, and vision gave Inter an outlet under pressure. He was taken off to a standing ovation in the 81st minute.
Inter now face Barcelona — the Champions League’s top scorers — in what promises to be a thrilling semi-final. With their strong defence and Martinez in top form, Inter will be a tough challenge for anyone.
