IOC omits Russia, Belarus from Olympic media rights tender

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has put media rights for the 2026 and 2028 Games out to tender, but Russia and Belarus have not been included.

“We are in talks about the rights in the European market,” IOC president Thomas Bach told dpa on Thursday.

He confirmed that Russia and Belarus were excluded from negotiations following the war on Ukraine.

The European rights for the Winter Games in four years in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, and the Summer Games in six years in Los Angeles are up for auction.

However, the IOC said companies could also buy rights for future Olympics if they wished.

US company Discovery, which operates Eurosport, previously secured the European TV rights for four Games until 2024 and then sold on the individual country rights.
