Eight teams will participate in the FAME Foundation annual football competition tagged “Generation Equality International Football Tournament” to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD).
The tournament in a release made available to Sporting Tribune on Thursday in Abuja by the Foundation’s project officer, Oluwatomisin Akinbowa, the tournament is being organized to celebrate women’s empowerment, teamwork, and inclusivity through sports.
The release added that the event will bring together women from diverse backgrounds including market women and grassroots communities, to promote unity and participation in football.
Sporting Tribune reports that the will feature teams from various organisations, including Team FIDA, Team FAME, Team NUT (Nigeria Union of Teachers), Team ASWHAN, Team Bet9ja, Team IDP, Team FIRS and Team ProSocial.
The tournament will take place on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 8:00 am at the Area 3 Football Pitch, Abuja. The event will also host an interactive educational session and provide free health screenings, including eye tests, cervical cancer screening, malaria testing, and other essential health services.
