Iwobi’s father debunks robbery claim

… confirms midfielder’s safety

Chuka Iwobi, the father of Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has dismissed online reports that his son was robbed at his London home, confirming that the Fulham player had travelled to Turkey before the story emerged online.

He disclosed this when he spoke with journalist Colin Udoh to address claims that armed intruders broke into the midfielder’s residence and stole valuables reportedly worth £500,000.

“Alex is fine, and there was absolutely no attempt to burgle his house. He left for Turkey this morning in preparation for the friendlies,” Chuka said on Tuesday.

Iwobi’s presence in Turkey was confirmed as he joined 14 other players in the Super Eagles camp in Antalya ahead of friendly matches against Iran and Jordan.

The camp opened on Tuesday, with early arrivals including Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Emmanuel Fernandez, Semi Ajayi, Bruno Onyemaechi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Moses Simon, Paul Onuachu, Philip Otele and Collins Yira Sor.

Chuka Iwobi expressed concern over the spread of the report, noting that he received several calls from people seeking clarification.

“It’s so annoying that a person can actually spread such falsehood just for a few clicks,” he said.

Nigeria will play Iran on Friday before facing Jordan on March 31, with both matches scheduled for Antalya after a change of venue from Amman.

Iwobi was named in the 23-man squad for the fixtures and remains part of coach Eric Chelle’s plans.
