Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger have one thing in common – Petr Cech

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech believes that rival managers Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger have something in common.

Manchester United boss Mourinho and his Arsenal counterpart Wenger have endured a fraught relationship over the years.

But Cech — who spent much of his career under Mourinho at Chelsea before joining Wenger’s Arsenal in 2015 — said there is one thing that drives them both.

“They are different but there is one thing they have in common and that is, they don’t like defeats,” Cech said in an interview with Guinness World Records after being recognised for holding the Premier League record for most clean sheets.

“And I think this is the driving force behind the success of both of them. Because you cannot last for such a long time if you don’t have the commitment and the hunger and if you are not doing everything to avoid defeat.”

Cech, who has kept 181 clean sheets in the Premier League since 2004, also reflected on his own career, saying his most memorable save was the penalty he stopped in extra time of the 2012 Champions League final.

Cech denied Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben to keep the scores level at 1-1 before Chelsea prevailed in a penalty shootout.

“This must be one of those saves you always remember,” Cech said.

As for his most memorable game, the 34-year-old veteran said it was the 2015 Community Shield — his first match for Arsenal which happened to be against his former club Chelsea, with the Gunners winning 1-0.

“This is something that I will always remember, that feeling. It was a special game and the reception from both fans and everything,” Cech said. “I didn’t know what to expect, I was very nervous. And in the end it was one game where I came home thinking, ‘Yes that was fantastic.”
