Jose Mourinho keeps a low profile as Manchester United squad arrive for training ahead of Europa League

Jose Mourinho appeared in no mood to play up to the cameras as he and his Manchester United team arrived at training on Tuesday.

Mourinho was driven to United’s Carrington training ground in a black Jaguar from his temporary home in the Lowry Hotel as they prepare for Thursday’s Europa League game away to Zorya Luhansk.

The Portuguese boss wore a black beanie hat and tracksuit top zipped up to the neck even though he was sat in the car, as if trying to avoid attracting attention, and did not glance at photographers as he arrived at work.

Mourinho was not the only one not in the mood for the media – the world’s most expensive player, Paul Pogba, arrived by taxi, and shielded his face from the cameras as he was driven onto the club’s training ground.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney was less concerned by what is now extremely familiar attention, paying little heed to members of the public attempting to flag him down for photos as he arrived in his Audi 4×4.

England and United team mate Phil Jones, on the other hand, was in very friendly mood, stopping his car for a picture with a young fan.

Jones has spoken about United’s defensive woes and inability to hold onto wins – they have lost seven points in the final 10 minutes of Premier League games, and jones admits it is now a ‘trend’ for the Old Trafford side.

After they drew 1-1 at Everton following Marouane Fellaini giving away an 87th minute penalty: ‘We are losing too many points now. It’s becoming a common trend, and we need to put that right quick.

‘I can think of four or five games now where we have dominated but not managed to win. It’s happened again and I’m gutted.’

Fellaini himself was another trying to keep a low profile – a difficult feat when you are a six-foot-plus professional footballer with a giant bleached afro driving a huge Mercedes.

The Belgian midfielder arrived with his hood up around his head, like Mourinho hoping to get some protection from the camera lens.

It has been a bad few days for Fellaini, who after giving away the Everton penalty two minutes after coming on as a substitute for his 100th United appearance was taunted mercilessly on Twitter.

Fellaini and co can go some way towards making up for the Goodison Park disappointment if they can qualify from the group stages of the Europa League on Thursday night.

United will reach the knockout stages with just a point in Ukraine, against a Zorya Luhansk side yet to win in five games in Group A.

A win would give the Red Devils a chance of finishing above Fenerbahce at the top of the group, which could help them get an easier draw in the round of 32.
