Jurgen Klopp slams Premier League schedule: It makes no sense!

JURGEN KLOPP has blasted the Premier League for packing in too many fixtures around Christmas.

Liverpool are set to play three games in six days around new years.

And the German manager says the schedule makers should reconsider how they do things.

“January 27th, 31st, no problem, that’s completely OK and a normal rhythm,” said Klopp on Football Focus.

“But then to play again on the 2nd [of January] makes no sense.

“I am a football fan, I would like to watch football everyday but if you do it, after four weeks, you cannot do it any more. The only thing is you have to accept the problems you cause with things like this.

“Pep Guardiola said exactly the right thing about this. It’s not about coming from Europe and saying ‘let’s do it different’. It’s about what is right or not right.

“It’s part of the game that you always need to be ready but you need the boys for it. I care about the boys.

“For me it’s no problem to play a game every day – I don’t have to run. But the players have to run. In this case against City on the 31st and then Sunderland on the 2nd.”

Liverpool will be hoping the fixture congestion doesn’t affect their title bid.

Klopp’s side can keep the pressure on Chelsea by beating Everton in the Merseyside derby on Monday.

And with a good set of results against Stoke, Manchester City and Sunderland, the Reds could be in a strong position heading into the new year.
