Rumours about Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid for Italian champions Juventus have grounds, according to a source close to the Italian club’s management.
Earlier on Thursday, the Spanish sports newspaper AS reported that the 33-year-old Portuguese striker had reached an agreement with the Italian side and was set to leave Real Madrid in the coming days.
“Rumors about Ronaldo leaving Real are true. They [Juventus’s management] really want to strengthen their squad, because they want to win the Champions League in the next two seasons,” the source said.
Since beating Ajax on penalties in 1996 to lift the trophy for the second time, Juventus have reached the Champions League final five times and lost, most recently when were beaten by Real 4-1 in the final in Cardiff in 2017.
Ronaldo scored four goals at this year’s World Cup, including a hat-trick in Portugal’s opening 3-3 draw against Spain.
