Kaduna teams dominate National Hockey League

… as Kada Stars, Queens prove supremacy

Kaduna teams, Kada Stars and Kada Queens, beat all comers to win the male and female categories of the 2025 National Hockey Super League which was held from 1st to 8th November at the hockey pitch, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Kada Stars, captained by Kelvin Linus, emerged champions after defeating Police Machine by 3 goals to 2 through penalties after a gruelling final match which kept spectators on the seats all through. Kada Stars scored an incredible 57 goals without conceding any during open play scoring 13 goals against Adamawa in the group stage. It was the 7th national league victory for Kada Stars.

Kada Queens, inspired by their skipper, Alfa Cornelius, defeated their Plateau counterparts by 2 goals to nothing to claim the female crown. Thus, Kada Stars and Kada Queens, along with runners-up Police Machine and Plateau Queens, have qualified to represent Nigeria at the Africa Cup for Club Champions (ACCC) scheduled for 24th to 31st January, 2026, in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Speaking after the final, president, Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF), Engineer Simon Nkom, commended the teams for displaying the spirit of sportsmanship and the officials for good officiating and thanked his predecessor, Senator Abdul Ningi, for setting out the template for him to succeed.

He pledged his continuous support for the Federation and the teams as they prepare to fly the country’s flag in Harare in January.

He said, “I must commend the players, the officials for good display. We’ll provide you with all the necessary support to triumph in Harare as we trust you to make to make Nigeria proud. I thank our former president, distinguished Senator Abdul Ningi for his support. I was his vice and he has set the template we are following today and I learnt a lot from him.”

In separate interviews with Tribunesports, Livinus and Cornelius, captains of Kada Stars and Kada Queens respectively, promised not to relent in their oars and make Nigeria proud at the ACCC in January.

While 13 teams played featured in the men’s league, only 8 participated in the women’s. Awards, cash prizes and trophies were presented to the best behaved players, the best goalkeeper, the most valuable player among others.
