‘Kane is worth more than Neymar’

Harry Kane would command a higher transfer fee than Neymar but Tottenham should never sell their star striker, says Tony Gale.

According to Spanish publication ‘Don Balon’, Real Madrid are willing to pay €200m for the Tottenham striker, who scored an astonishing 13 goals for club and country in the month of September.

Gale feels that Kane is exactly the type of star player that Tottenham require at their new stadium, but if they were to sell him the transfer fee would eclipse the world record amount of £198m paid by Paris Saint-Germain for Neymar in August.

“The temptation is that if they sell him, that will pay for the new stadium,” Gale told ‘Sky Sports’. “But you want the best players to play in the new stadium and he’s one of the best strikers in the world at the moment.

“They’d be mad to sell him, you’ve got to build everything around him and give him what Real Madrid would pay him.

“I think he’s worth more than Neymar. Harry’s got goals in him and goals are the thing.”

Former England midfielder Ray Wilkins agreed that Tottenham should not consider allowing Kane to leave, and said the sale of Gareth Bale is proof that cashing in on high-value players does not always work out for the best.

“He’s priceless for Tottenham and they can’t afford to let him go because everything they’re trying to do will be destroyed,” he said.

“They got £80m for Gareth Bale and they didn’t really do a lot with that so they can’t afford to let him go.”

And he added: “You’ve seen what’s gone on and you have £180m for Mbappe and £198 for Neymar. Harry’s up there with the lot of them.

“He has to be up there near that figure and that’s the going rate for players. But if Tottenham want to push on and keep players like him, they need to keep him at the going rate.”
