Keeper busy with phone on matchday

Addiction to using mobile phones is commonplace, but you certainly shouldn’t check your device while playing in a football match.

That is what Atletico Paranaense goalkeeper Santos was bizarrely caught doing during his side’s 2-1 defeat to Atletico Mineiro on Sunday.

The 28-year-old was spotted on his phone during the match, much to the bewilderment of supporters behind the goal.

Santos elected to put his phone away when he saw Atletico Mineiro on the attack, but it was still rather strange that he chose to use it in the first place, unless it was an emergency.

A long-serving member of the Atletico Paranaense squad, Santos has played regularly in recent weeks, having often previously been the club’s back-up goalkeeper.

Santos was unable to prevent his side from falling to defeat on Sunday, but it was his actions away from play that caught the attention.
