Kelechi Iheanacho: I can fill Sergio Aguero void

KELECHI IHEANACHO promised to fill the void left by Sergio Aguero after he earned Manchester City a point against Celtic last night.

But City could face a fine from UEFA after crowd trouble near the Celtic fans at the Etihad Stadium last night.

City striker Iheanacho equalised after Patrick Roberts fired Celtic ahead as both sides finished off their group stage with a point.

And he is now ready to fill in for Aguero, who misses City’s next four Premier League games after his red card against Chelsea on Saturday.

Iheanacho said: “I have the responsibility now to be the striker in the team and replace Sergio for four games.”

City were already guaranteed to finish second in Group C while Celtic could not better their position at the bottom which prompted Pep Guardiola to make changes.

The City boss said: “We played really well against a good team, the experienced players helped a lot for the young players.

“It was a good experience for them – they deserved to play because they trained well, their behaviour is always perfect.

“I’m so happy to give them the opportunity to play in the Champions League.”

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers added: “We competed against two of the super powers of European football in this group in City and Barcelona and we haven’t been beaten by Manchester City.

“Arguably we could have won both games. I am absolutely proud of the team.”

City must now wait to hear from UEFA after the trouble during the 74th minute of the game.

t appeared that some Celtic fans had found themselves in the City end where the trouble was sparked before stewards and police quickly split them up.

Manchester United and Liverpool were both fined £45,000 last season for abusive chanting and crowd trouble, including fighting between fans at Old Trafford during the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed there were 13 arrests yesterday in the city, including one Celtic supporter who threw a burger at a police horse.
