Klopp stands his ground over Coutinho

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has once again insisted that midfielder Philippe Coutinho will not be sold by the club this summer.

Spanish giants Barcelona are understood to be confident of signing the player this summer but the German is adamant that the player will not be leaving Merseyside in the coming weeks.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s Audi Cup game against Bayern Munich, the former Borussia Dortmund boss insisted that his ‘not for sale’ stance had not changed, saying: “If you say he is not available to be sold, where is the interpretation?

“The word ‘not’ means there is no interpretation. There is nothing new.”

The ‘Reds’ are already believed to have turned down a £72m bid from Ernesto Valverde’s side for the 25-year-old, who signed a new five-year deal at Anfield as recently as January.

It is understood that said contract does not contain a release clause, thus strengthening the club’s bargaining position.

Barca have earmarked the Brazilian as one potential replacement for his fellow countryman Neymar, who looks more and more likely to join PSG. However, the Catalans are not putting all their eggs in one basket and are also considering moves for the likes of Antione Griezmann, Paulo Dybala, Eden Hazard and Dele Alli.
