The demonstration, organised by Showtime Flag Football in partnership with NAFA (Nigeria American Football Association), was held at the African Church Grammar School, Abeokuta, with a special exhibition match staged at the MKO Abiola Stadium.
Supported by the National Sports Commission, led by Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, the flag football demonstration marked a significant milestone in the sport’s integration into Nigeria’s national sporting landscape.
From the quarterfinals to the final, fans witnessed high-octane action and strategic gameplay that underscored the sport’s potential and appeal. The event was also enriched by youth showcase matches, emphasising grassroots development and inclusion.
As the curtain falls on the demonstration, flag football leaves the Gateway Games 2024 not just as a newcomer but as a sport with a bold and promising future in Nigeria.
