BREAKING: Iniesta agrees lifelong Barca deal

Barcelona’s veteran midfielder Andres Iniesta has finally put doubts over his long-term future with the club to bed by agreeing a new deal.

The 33-year-old’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of the current season and with mounting interest from Italy it was thought that his long association with the Catalan side may be set to come to an end.

Those fears were heightened when Iniesta contradicted club president Josep Bartmeu a few weeks ago by insisting that no new contract was close to agreement but it seems that both parties have since come to an agreement.

Barca took to social media on Friday to confirm that Iniesta would remain a Barcelona player until he retires, though given his performances so far this season, there is nothing to suggest that he will do so any time soon.

The new deal will see Iniesta end his career with the club that he has served with distinction since making his debut way back in 2002.

The classy playmaker has bounced back from a frustrating campaign last term to reassert himself as a key member of the ‘blaugrana’ engine room, starting eight games in all competitions so far this season.

Iniesta will sign his new contract at around 12:30 CET on Friday, before being presented before the media in the press suite at Barca’s Camp Nou stadium.

Having made 639 appearances for the club, Iniesta is currently second on the list of Barca’s all-time appearance makers and could go on to beat that record now that he is tied to the club for life.

Barca fans will no doubt be delighted to see their hero commit his remaining days as a professional footballer to the club and the club will now turn their sights once again to Lionel Messi’s contract situation.
