LFP condemns Tebas over PSG quotes

The French football league (LFP) has today released an official statement condemning La Liga president Javier Tebas over remarks he made about PSG.

Tebas launched into a sensational rant on Wednesday, in which he accused PSG of ‘financial doping’ in reference to their mega-money moves to bring both Newmar and Kylian Mbappe to the club this summer.

The La Liga chief went on to demand an investigation into the funding provided by PSG owners Qatar Sports Investment, accusing them of having ‘been caught p***ing in the pool’.

Only Wednesday evening, the Ligue du Football Professionnel’ (LFP) hit back, releasing a statement condemning Tebas’ remarks.

The statement read: “The Professional Football League strongly condemns the insulting comments made today by La Liga president Mr Javier Tebas concerning Paris Saint-Germain.

“These indignant remarks were not in keeping with the high standards expected of an institution as respectable as the Spanish League.

“The Professional Football League would like to issue a reminder that only UEFA are qualified to comment on issues regarding PSG’s compliance or non-compliance with Financial Fair Play.

“Following a meeting today, the LFP has reaffirmed its support for PSG in face of the smear campaign lead by several top European clubs in recent weeks.

“The LFP is pleased by the appeal of Ligue 1 so far this season.

“The busy transfer window for French clubs and particularly that of PSG, contributes to the spectacle that is Ligue 1. Thanks to these investments, Ligue 1 has seen a fantastic start to the new season with an increased number of goals as well as a huge rise in attendances and viewing figures.”
