Libya coach dismisses ‘juju-believing’ Nigeria

Libya coach, Adel Amrouche on Saturday demeaned the quality of the Nigerian national team, saying that the Super Eagles are not as strong as the Bafana Bafana of South Africa. He added that Nigeria relies so much on metaphysical power, even in football.

Libya, Nigeria, South Africa and Seychelles are pitted in the same group jostling for slots in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles will play host to the Mediterranean Knights next month in continuation of the Group E qualifying matches for the 2019 championship.

Amrouche, in a post-match interview on Saturday said: “I prefer playing Nigeria than (sic) Bafana Bafana. For me, Bafana Bafana have fantastic players. It’s not easy to play Bafana Bafana. Nigeria? I am ready for Nigeria.”

South and Libya played out a goalless draw at the Moses Mabhida stadium, Durban on the day the Super Eagles defeated Seychelles 3-0 in Victoria.

The Algerian exuded so much confidence that he did not mind if the home and away matches between both countries were played in Nigeria as that itself would not stop his team from overwhelming the Eagles. “If they want it to be played two times in Nigeria, [then] we play two times in Nigeria,” Amrouche said.

To buttress his point that South Africa are stronger than Nigeria, Amrouche mentioned some Bafana Bafan players, whom he said actually gave him sleepless nights prior to their match on Saturday.
“I spent long nights always thinking about how to stop this one [player], that one. You have [Sibusiso] Vilakazi, [Larenzo], [Percy] Tau. You have good players.

But instead of Nigeria to practically prepare for a match, he said they would rather invest in acquiring metaphysical power to triumph.

“I know they believe in juju too much,” the former coach of Kenya said.
