Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson beats Arsenal fan favourite Granit Xhaka to September’s goal of the month award

Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson has scooped September’s Premier League goal of the month award for his long-range missile against Chelsea.

The Reds captain, who also wore the armband during England’s 0-0 draw with Slovenia in midweek, curled home an unstoppable right-footed effort from 30-yards, which dipped and swerved over Thibuat Courtois.

Henderson’s effort ultimately proved decisive in a 2-1 win for Jurgen Klopp’s side at Stamford Bridge, a victory which kept Liverpool in touch with Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The 26-year-old overcame significant competition to win the award in the shape of Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka, who opened his account for his new club with a similar blast from distance in the 4-1 victory over Hull City.

Henderson also beat his Liverpool and England team-mate Adam Lallana, who capped an impressive month with thumping finish in the 4-1 victory over champions Leicester City.
