Liverpool star: I was destined to play for Jurgen Klopp

LIVERPOOL star Sadio Mane says he was destined to play for Jurgen Klopp.

The former Southampton winger has got his debut campaign at Anfield off to a lightening-quick start, forming a ferocious forward line with Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho.

And in their 6-1 romp over Watford on Sunday, the Senegalese striker added two more goals to the four he’s already scored this season.

But at one point Mane felt like he’d never get the chance to work with Klopp after the then Borussia Dortmund boss failed to land him from Red Bull Salzburg two and a half years ago.

The move fell through and the attacker went on to sign for Southampton instead.

Now, after a £30m summer switch from St Mary’s, Mane’s finally got the chance to work with Klopp in the Premier League.

Speaking of the original transfer, Mane told Goal: “I was so excited. I couldn’t believe it – that he wanted to meet and thought I could help his team, who were so good. I used to watch them all the time.

“Things didn’t work out back then and it was frustrating, but that’s life – nothing just comes easy.

“I told myself to just carry on working hard, push myself and something big would come. I did that. I went to Southampton, I played well and then, Klopp wanted me again.

“Now I’m lucky enough to be working with one of the best managers in football. It was meant to happen and I am very happy to be learning all the time from him.”

Along with Mane, Coutinho and Firmino, Liverpool boast one of the most prolific attacks in the Premier League.

After 11 games, the Reds sit one point clear at the top of the table, and going forward they’re sure to be in the title mix thanks to their electric attackers.
