The League Management Company (LMC) has re-fixed the match between the El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri and Heartland FC of Owerri for Saturday following the injuries to some players of Heartland FC in a road accident on Wednesday.
The Match Day 35 was rescheduled for yesterday (Thursday) before players of the visiting team were involved in the accident in Maiduguri.
Speaking to Tribunesport on Thursday, media officer of Heartland FC, Cajetan Nkwopara, thanked the LMC for the gesture, but expressed worry over the club’s likely inability to replace, before Saturday, the players who are in critical.
“We came to Maiduguri with 18 players and at least five of the players’ cases are bad; these are first team players. Getting players to replace them between now and Saturday is almost impossible as it takes two days to travel to Maiduguri. If we consider the option of a flight, I think flights come to Maiduguri only two days in a week,” Nkwopara told Tribunesport by phone.
He gave the names of the players whose conditions are bad as Owusu Anthony, Kingsley Ajaero, Nnaemeka Anyanwu, Matmerzel Obioha and captain Chinedu Efugh. The sixth player, goalkeeper Ebere Obi, Nkwopara explained, is in a worse condition.
