Ademola Lookman moved to third on Nigeria’s all-time scorers’ list in the UEFA Champions League after scoring in Atletico Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to FC Barcelona in their quarter-final second leg on Tuesday.
The goal was Lookman’s eighth in the competition and helped Atletico progress to the semi-finals with a 3-2 aggregate win.
Lamine Yamal gave Barcelona the lead in the fourth minute, while Ferran Torres added a second in the 24th minute from a pass by Dani Olmo. Lookman reduced the deficit seven minutes later, a goal that proved important to the outcome over two legs.
The strike took the 28-year-old to eight goals in 21 Champions League appearances, moving him past Victor Ikpeba, who scored seven.
Only Victor Osimhen and Obafemi Martins have scored more Champions League goals among Nigerians, with 16 and nine, respectively.
Lookman has also recorded three goals and four assists in 13 matches in the competition this season.
Atletico will face Arsenal in the semi-finals.
