Serie A side SSC Napoli have confirmed that striker Romelu Lukaku failed to report for training on Tuesday, with the club warning that disciplinary action could follow.
In an official statement, Napoli said the forward did not respond to a call-up ahead of the resumption of training.
“Napoli announce that Romelu Lukaku did not respond to today’s call-up ahead of the resumption of training,” the club said.
“The club reserves the right to evaluate the adoption of appropriate disciplinary measures as well as the continuation of the player’s participation in the team on an indefinite basis.”

The development has heightened tensions between the club and the Belgian striker, who had earlier withdrawn from international duty with Belgium, citing poor fitness.
However, Lukaku reportedly remained in Belgium to train individually rather than return to Naples, a decision that has now drawn the club’s reaction.
Reports had earlier suggested that Napoli could freeze the striker out of the squad if he failed to return, but the club’s latest statement indicates that stronger measures may be under consideration.
According to Italian media, Napoli’s legal team is currently reviewing the situation, with options ranging from internal sanctions to more severe actions, including a possible termination of contract, depending on existing agreements.
Lukaku, who has been a key figure for Napoli, now faces uncertainty over his immediate future at the club as discussions continue behind the scenes.
Napoli are scheduled to return to action after the international break with a crucial fixture against AC Milan at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
