Why were Madrid’s shirt numbers different?

Real Madrid got off to a winning start in the new La Liga season, but something else caught the attention of fans during the game: The font of the shirt names and numbers.

Twitter exploded after the victory over Deportivo on Sunday evening with one question, why were the names and numbers on the back of the Real Madrid shirts different?

The change was due to a new rule introduced by La Liga, where the style on the back of each shirt must now be the same for every team throughout the league.

Despite the fact that ‘Los Blancos’ did not initially agree to the new guidelines, the club eventually had no choice but to accept the change in order to increase the readability of the names and numbers.
