Maduka savours debut

Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye who made his debut for Nigeria last Sunday in a friendly against Brazil, has expressed joy at the opportunity given to him don the colours of his fatherland.

Okoye, 20, came on to replace first choice Francis Uzoho in the 62nd minute following his horrific injury in the game which ended in a 1-1 draw at the National Stadium, Singapore.

The Fortuna Dusseldorf II goalkeeper, Okoye, was an used substitute during Nigeria’s friendly against Ukraince in September, before he eventually won his first cap against the Selecao of Brazil.

The keeper through Maduka Okoye @OkoyeMaduka while celebrating his modest feat tweeted: “Glad to have made my debut for Nigeria! It’s a dream come true playing for my beloved country. Now it’s time to work even harder!”

He also sent in his best wishes to injured AC Omonia goalkeeper, Uzoho, as he tweeed: “Wishing my brother @Uzohof a speedy recovery. Thank you Nigeria!”

It will be recalled that Uzoho, was stretchered off in the second half of the encounter after he landed badly on his leg while trying to deal with a cross.
