Makinde mourns IGC Captain, Ibironke ‘Dudu Heritage’

OYO State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has commiserated with the family of the late Captain of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Mr Ola Ibironke, a.k.a. ‘Dudu Heritage’.

Ibironke, who until his death was the Captain of IGC died at the age of 59 on Sunday evening at the club premises.

Oyo State Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Professor Dahud Kehinde Sangodoyin, who represented Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, while signing the condolence register at the residence of the deceased on Monday wrote:

“You were a gentleman with greatness of love for mankind, may the Lord forgive you of all your misdeeds and reward your good works on earth. Rest in perfect peace.”

Former Captain of IGC, Mr Idowu Salami, described the death of Ibironke as a big loss to the golfing circle.
According to Salami, the golfer played 18 holes round of the game the same day as he gave no sign of sickness.

“I’m still in shock, it’s extremely sad, pathetic and unbelievable. He died at the Club’s pavilion. His entire tenure was focused on the development of the club [IGC] and the uplift of the game.

“He did so many innovative tournaments that had never happened in the history of golf in Nigeria. We were to play a tournament this weekend known as Golf Captain Invitational Tournament and it has never happened before not just in Nigeria but all over the world.

“It was aimed at bringing all past captains all over Nigeria together to have a forum and the vision is to rotate it annually for the growth of golf.

“I was with him when the incident happened. He was hale and hearty, he was fit physically.

I was about to drive out of the clubhouse when I was called to return and that my friend just slumped. So I rushed back and I met him on the floor and we tried to rush him to the hospital but I guess he died on the spot,” Salami said.

Present at Ibironke’s residence at Bodija, Ibadan, at the time of this report were former Police Affairs Minister, Alhaji AbdulJelili Adesiyan and his wife, Alhaja Otolola Adesiyan; Akin Funmilayo, IGC 2nd vice captain, Mr Tunji Oladosu, Secretary of the club, Mr Seyi Alaba, Diran Odeyemi, Abass Oloko, and the former Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Ojo, among others.
