Man City boss Pep Guardiola makes shocking assessment of Everton draw

PEP GUARDIOLA was incredibly upbeat about Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Everton today.

City will feel like they should have won three points after missing two penalties against Ronald Koeman’s side.

But the former Barcelona boss has claimed he’s very proud of his team, despite the Citizens slipping back towards the chasing pack in the Premier League title race.

“We did everything and I am so proud of that team,” Guardiola said after the game. “We played amazing. We created chances, had two penalties.

“They had one chance. In football it is like this. Big compliment to Everton about the way they defend and their performance.

“I am sad for the players because they deserve to win the game. We have to keep our heads up because from the beginning of the season we have done so well. Football is football. This happens sometimes.”

Kevin de Bruyne missed a penalty as the first half came to a close, and then Romelu Lukaku piled on the misery with an emphatic breakaway finish on 64 minutes.

Shortly afterwards Phil Jagielka, who gave away the first spot kick, brought down David Silva in the box.

Sergio Aguero started on the bench after his fitness was questioned during the international break, but he was subbed on and stepped up to take City’s second spot kick of the day.

Unfortunately for him, he placed it almost exactly where De Bruyne had in the first half and Maarten Stekelenburg notched up his second penalty save in 30 minutes.

Nolito saved his blushes though with an impressive header from a David Silva cross and saw City grab a share of the spoils.
