Manchester City supporters believe Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt would make for a perfect summer recruit for Pep Guardiola amid uncertainty over Vincent Kompany’s future at the club.
The Blues’ captain’s current contract expires at the end of the campaign and Guardiola said after Kompany’s sensational winner against Leicester on Monday night that he would sit down ‘for a beer’ to discuss his plans with the centre-back, who turned 33 last month.
Kompany was adamant that he has no intention of retiring at the end of the season but sections of City’s support believe De Ligt could be the Belgium international’s long-term successor at the club.
