Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea set a new record

Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea set a new record on the weekend.

The Premier League trio held on to their unbeaten starts to make it the first time in English top-flight history that three teams have remained unbeaten in their opening 12 games of the season.

League leaders City beat rivals Manchester United 3-1, Liverpool beat bottom of the table Fulham 2-0 and Chelsea drew 0-0 with Everton.

Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri, became the first manager not to lose in his opening 12 matches in the competition.

However, in terms of top spot, former Man United midfielder Paul Scholes can’t see beyond City and is even backing them to remain unbeaten for the entire season like Arsenal did in the 2003/04 campaign.

“The more you look at the City team, I don’t see where they’re going to get beat,” he said.

Scholes believes Liverpool will be their nearest challengers, but says the strength in depth available to Pep Guardiola is the reason his team are candidates to emulate the Gunners.

“I think Liverpool will probably be the closest, but I just think [City] are that good, they are in control,” he added.

“You look at the bench as well [in the Manchester derby]. [Gabriel] Jesus, not brought on, a brilliant centre-forward, [Ilkay] Gundogan, they bring on, scores a goal. They’ve just got quality in every position.

“I think if they are at it every game, they won’t lose a game.”
