Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Aston Villa midfielder, Youri Tielemans, as they step up efforts to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new season.
United have made midfield reinforcement a priority this summer but have missed out on several targets. Elliot Anderson is set to join Manchester City, while Mateus Fernandes opted for a move from West Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur.
The club also reached an agreement with Serie A side Atalanta for Brazil international Ederson, but the proposed £35 million transfer has been put on hold.
Chelsea’s Andrey Santos is also understood to have completed a medical ahead of a reported £48 million move, leaving United to pursue alternative options.
Tielemans’ Aston Villa contract contains a release clause, making negotiations more straightforward, with a deal now close.

The 29-year-old Belgium international has been on United’s shortlist for some time, with the club valuing his Premier League experience.
Tielemans played a key role in Belgium’s run to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup but missed their 2-1 defeat to Spain after suffering an injury during the pre-match warm-up.
