United and England captain Wayne Rooney was among those to pen a supportive message after electrical problems downed the aircraft as the team travelled to a match
The football world has been paying tribute to Brazilian club Chapecoense after a plane carrying the team crashed, killing and injuring many of those on board.
The aircraft, which was carrying 81 people, crashed in Colombia after suffering technical problems.
Tragically, 76 people lost their lives while the other five are being treated for injuries.
Chapecoense, who play in the Brazilian top flight with the likes of Santos and Corinthians, were travelling to the Colombian city of Medellin to contest the Copa Sudamerica final against Atletico Nacional.
Federico Gutierrez, the Mayor of Medellin, said the plane “broke in two” when it crashed.
Tributes flooded in from the football community as CONMEBOL, South America’s football governing body, suspended football on the continent until further notice.
