Paul Pogba is clearly in high spirits after inspiring his country to a 1-0 World Cup qualifying over Holland on Monday.
The French midfielder is well known for his elaborate and eye-catching hair designs. In the wake of his goal-scoring display in Amsterdam, Pogba decided to celebrate with an new trim, revealed on Instagram, adorned with emojis.
The midfielder pulled the strings and beat Holland keeper Maarten Stekelenburg from 30 yards for the game’s only goal at the Amsterdam ArenA.
The performance did more than just see France go level on points with Group A leaders Sweden. In the wake of Didier Deschamps declaring that Pogba needed to improve after France’s 4-1 win over Bulgaria last week, the Manchester United man silenced some of his critics with his decisive role against Holland.
Pogba’s new hairdo features the ‘flame’ and ‘100’ emojis, renowned signs of social media appreciation. Perhaps the trim is subtle suggestion to his doubters of how the Frenchman considers his own display on Monday.
One thing is for certain, Pogba’s international captain Hugo Lloris was certainly impressed with his talented team-mate’s performance.
Lloris felt Pogba more than simply improved after the Bulgaria game. Asked whether Pogba had been relaxed in the face of criticism, the goalkeeper said yes, but added that there was a resolve behind Pogba’s cool exterior.
‘He’s a warrior in his mind,’ Lloris told ESPN.
‘That’s the most important thing. Of course he’s very talented but in football talent is not enough, and in his mind he’s very strong, and very ambitious, so he’s going to improve step by step and he will arrive at the level that he wants.
‘Especially after his transfer record, there is a lot of expectation around him. But I think today he showed the perfect response.
‘He helped the team to get the three points, he was decisive and maybe he will give us confidence for the next few games.’
