Manchester United and Chelsea are both interested in signing Watford ace Odion Ighalo, claims striker’s agent

The agent of Watford forward Odion Ighalo claims Manchester United and Chelsea have both expressed an interest in signing the Nigerian striker over the last year.

The 27-year-old hit 17 goals in 42 appearances for the Hornets last year and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League.

The Nigerian was heavily linked with a move away from the club in the summer and Watford reportedly rejected a £38million bid from the Chinese Super League for Ighalo.

However, the forward’s agent claims there was interest far closer to home and says Premier League big boys Chelsea and Manchester United expressed their interest in the striker.

‘In the last year he has also been wanted by Chelsea and Manchester United, but Watford had not even sat down to deal with then,’ said Patrick Bastianelli.

‘In January it may be difficult to go away, Watford and the Pozzo family has excellent relations with Napoli, but it will be difficult to sell in the winter market.

‘We’re talking about a guy who is part of the Nigerian national team. In football anything can happen, we’ll see.’
