Marseille remain very hopeful that captain Dimitri Payet will be fit for today’s Europa League final against Atletico Madrid.
The playmaker missed the weekend’s 3-3 draw with Guingamp after being withdrawn due to an unspecified injury.
The 31-year-old has been in brilliant form in 2018 and will be key to the Ligue 1 side’s chances of causing an upset against Atletico in Lyon.
The French team’s president is optimistic that their star man will be ready for the decider.
“We all hope he’ll be there. He has a little problem, he’s getting treatment,” Jacques-Henri Eyraud said. “He’s still a doubt, but we have good hope.”
Payet meanwhile echoed the same sentiments but was clear that he is in real danger of missing the game.
“I had a little scare,” he said on Sunday. “So as not to aggravate it, I preferred to sit out. Now, I’m getting treatment and trying to get back into shape for Wednesday. It’s not something banal.
“I’ll have to be careful. I have to be optimistic.”
