The Argentine will play his 293rd game against Granada – a stat that sees him surpass Phillip Cocu – leaving Messi and Dani Alves as the only non-Spaniards with more
Javier Mascherano is set to become the foreigner with the third-most appearances for Barcelona with 293 when he starts against Granada on Saturday evening.
The versatile Argentine had been tied with Netherlands star Phillip Cocu for the recognition heading into the clash at Camp Nou, and will now take sole ownership of it.
By appearing against the minnows, Mascherano – who joined Barcelona from Liverpool in 2010 – is set to play his 293rd game for the Catalans.
The 32-year-old has been a loyal servant of Barca despite not always being able to play in his favoured midfield position, winning 17 titles since he arrived at the club.
Lionel Messi and former team-mate Dani Alves are now the only foreigners with more appearances than Mascherano, who opted against leaving for Juventus in the summer.
