Messi Foundation accused of €10m tax fraud

According to information from newspaper ‘ABC’, the Foundation used a tax avoidance scheme to avoid declaring €10m.

Lionel Messi’s finances have come under scrutiny once again. According to ‘ABC’ the Argentine forward has allegedly hidden up to €10m in sponsorship revenues using the Messi Foundation.

The Foundation was set up in 2007 but it was not established until 2013, the year in which Messi started to have problems with the law.

The Argentine tax authorities have denounced the aformentioned NGO for not submitting its accounts for three consecutive years, according to ‘ABC’.

The Foundation may have been hiding large sums of money from Messi’s spornsors, in order to avoid declaring them as earnings.

This new information, which came out on Monday, puts Messi in the eye of the storm once again, just days after paying a fine to avoid jail time.
