Lionel Messi will overtake Cristiano Ronaldo to become the world’s highest paid player by signing a new Barcelona contract, according to reports.
The Daily Mirror claims that negotiations are not expected to be completed before the end of the year but the Argentine is expected to commit to a new deal which would see him earn a basic salary of £45 million per year.
Earlier this month, Ronaldo signed a new five-year contract with Real Madrid and is now earning over £500,000 per week.
On Monday, Marca claimed that Messi would not sign a new contract with Barcelona and the forward would see his contract through to 2018 before deciding his future.
