Mesut Ozil makes Arsenal transfer demand as part of contract negotiations

September 29, 2016

Mesut Ozil is reportedly pushing for Arsenal to make more reinforcements in the transfer market as one of his key requests during negotiations over a new contract.

The Germany international is being tipped to put pen to paper on a new and improved deal at the Emirates Stadium, despite lengthy talks that failed to progress over the summer.

Ozil makes big request amid contract talks which should please Arsenal fans

Ozil, who joined the Gunners from Real Madrid as their record signing in 2013, looks to be leaning towards staying with the club due to being happy with life in London and enjoying the trust of manager Arsene Wenger

However, latest information from Bild states that the 27-year-old would like to see Arsenal be more active in terms of big-name signings, with Wenger failing to land some top targets such as Jamie Vardy and Alexandre Lacazette in the most recent transfer window.

Arsenal did make some late moves for Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez, while fellow new-boy Granit Xhaka has also settled well after joining the club earlier in the summer.

Still, Arsenal fans will hope that Ozil’s demands can push Wenger to be more ambitious in terms of strengthening the side around him, with a large section of the fan-base in agreement that the Gunners have often not done enough in that department to keep up with their rivals.

As already reported previously, Ozil is also looking set to take the number 10 shirt from next season onwards after asking for a change.
