Super Eagles captain Mikel John Obi has lamented his absence from today’s pre-World Cup friendly between Nigeria and Serbia.
Three-time African champions Nigeria square up to Serbia at the Barnet Stadium, London tonight and the Tianjin TEDA of China midfielder had been expected to join up with the Eagles ahead of the match after missing out on the Poland-Nigeria match in Wroclaw last Friday.
The former Chelsea of England player was held back in China last week by work permit renewal processes and was expected to be on duty for his country tonight.
But Mikel took to his Twitter account on Monday to bemoan his unavailability for the Serbia match.
“Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control I will not be on the field for our game v Serbia tomorrow. I am sad, and frustrated,” Mikel had tweeted through his handle, @mikel_john_obi on Monday.
However, he sends his best wishes to his mates, while he looks forward to another victory for Nigeria. “But giving my full support to the team for another WIN! #SoarSuperEagles,” he added.
Nigeria, in their first pre-World Cup friendly against Poland last Friday, defeated the hosts 1-0 courtesy of a 61st minute penalty kick converted by Victor Moses.
