Social media users have continued to react differently to the news of Lionel Messi’s record eight Ballon d’Or wins.
Tribune Online reports that the 36-year-old was announced as the winner of the men’s award at the prestigious awards ceremony, which took place in Paris, France, on Monday.
The former Barcelona star beat Manchester City Forward, Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star, Kylian Mbappe who came 2nd and 3rd respectively to the award.
However, the news has continued to elicit different reactions from netizens. While some hail the announcement, describing him as a worthy winner, others berated the highly coveted football award organizers, saying Haaland deserves the award more after a heroic European season.
Reacting to the development on X, a user @Tundetash wrote, “Let’s be honest, Leo Messi conquered football.”
