Kevin Garnett has criticised the modern NBA, saying the game has become more focused on entertainment and showmanship rather than pure competition.
He emphasised the importance of work ethic and preparation, while praising players like Anthony Edwards for maintaining a strong competitive mindset.
Kevin Garnett shared his thoughts on the current state of the NBA, pointing out what he sees as a clear change in how the game is played compared to his era.

Speaking in an interview with Timberwolves, the former MVP described today’s league as more focused on entertainment and pace than pure competition.
“Today’s game is a lot faster, a lot more technical. It’s a bit of showmanship. It’s a bit of an event. It’s not a sport,” Garnett said, highlighting the contrast with the more physical and defensive style that defined his playing days.
For Garnett, the key difference comes down to mindset and preparation. He stressed that success still depends on putting in consistent work rather than relying on reputation or off-court attention.
“If your celebrity is in front of your work, then that’s a problem; a lot of this comes from you putting the work in,” he added.
He also pointed to Anthony Edwards as an example of a player who still carries a strong competitive approach.
Garnett praised Edwards for his attitude and focus, describing it as a “yesteryear attitude” that reflects a more traditional mindset toward the game.
On the court, Edwards has been leading the Minnesota Timberwolves with strong production this season, putting up 29.5 points per game while shooting efficiently from both the field and beyond the arc.
Garnett also highlighted the supporting cast around Edwards. Players like Julius Randle and Jaden McDaniels have provided scoring, defense, and versatility, helping the team stay competitive throughout the season
