Modric plays down Ballon d’Or hopes

Croatia captain, Luka Modric is not losing any sleep over whether or not he wins the Ballon d’Or and says it has been a great year either way.

The 33-year-old has had an outstanding 2018 after helping Real Madrid win the Champions League yet again, while Croatia also surprised many when making it all the way to the World Cup Final.

The prestige that comes with winning the prize seems to have escalated over the years, with many top players desperate to win it, almost as much as team honours.

However, Modric is keeping calm and does not seem too bothered either way.

“I said last time I’m honoured to be in this competition for this great award,” Modric said after Croatia’s 2-1 loss to England in the Nations League on Sunday.

“If it happened, no-one [will be] happier than me, but if not, nothing will change. My year was great and that’s it.”
