The Head Coach of Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin, Monday Odigie, has resigned from his appointment with the Club.
It was gathered that the former Insurance gaffer submitted his resignation letter to the Club Secretary, Mr. Charles Ihimekpen, (Chiko), shortly after the Benin Club side lost 2-3 to Rangers International of Enugu last Sunday.
According to a source close to the team, Odigie wanted to resign his appointment in the Match Day 10 encounter against Sunshine Stars of Akure, but the outcome of the match which Insurance won 2-1 on the road prevented that from happening.
It was scooped further that the embattled gaffer prior to his resignation as Bendel Insurance handler went to Akure and Enugu and came alone without following the team.
The former Bayelsa United Head Coach has been under fire from fans and supporters of the Benin Arsenals following a poor run in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Insurance is currently occupying the bottom of the 20-team league, following its wk12 loss to the reigning NPFL Champions Enugu Rangers.
Bendel will on Saturday trade tackles with visiting Kwara United in a Match Day 11 encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia’s Stadium in Benin, beginning at 4 pm.
Recall that Monday Odigie had some time last season abandoned the team following poor runs, as his assistant, Greg Igbinoba took charge of the team in his absence. He later returned back to the team after about three weeks.
As of the time of this report, the Management of the team is yet to make a statement about the development despite Greg Igbinoba overseeing the team’s Thursday training at the main bowl of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.
