Moor Plantation league season 2 kicks off in Ibadan

The second edition of the Moor Plantation football league kicked off on Tuesday at the institutions Recreational Football Field, Moor Plantation, Ibadan.

Teams participating at the tournament are ATUNGWU Titans, Team A.D, Okpeze Stars, Fasasi Colossus, Oluwatosin Vanguard and DOJA FC.

The six weeks long football tournament will see staff of the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology (FCAH&PT) Ibadan, Federal College of Agriculture Ibadan (FCAI), and the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training Ibadan (IAR&T) slug it out on the field of play.

According to the Chairman, Local Organising Committee chairman (LOC), Mr Popoola Waheed, the competition was aimed to boost and improve health of participants, as well as encourage camaraderie through sports among staff and members of the college community.

Speaking, the Acting Provost of the FCAH&PT, Dr Chidi Okpeze said the college has been in forefront in Agric games having held first position for decades now.

He stated that sports in the college is something everybody knows about from the head to toe saying “We are involved and at anytime, any day, we keep fit, we played games to keep fit and we are doing so many things to keep fit and we have been achieving a lot.”

Also, the Executive Director of IAR&T, Professor G.A Oluwatosin described sports as away of keeping fit, just as he encouraged the participants to play fairly and avoid injured one another.

One of the highlight of the opening ceremony is the Kick out Rabies AntiRabies campaign, Speaking on fighting rabies in Nigeria, the Director of Veterinary Services, Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Ibadan, Dr Folashade Ajasin said addressing the community on Rabies a killer disease, She said globally, the World Health Organisation and all countries are looking forward to 2030 for the complete eradication of rabies.

She said, “African and Asia are currently are the worst heat, we are recording an average of 59,000 cases on an annual basis and this is very unacceptable and in order for us to contribute our own quota towards achieving this goal, the college is using sports as a medium for convergence for people to come together and fight rabies in our community and country at large.

“Apart from our students, colleagues, staff and parents, we are also hoping to reach out to others through this games starting today to draw awareness to the danger that rabies is causing not just all over the world but particularly in Nigeria.”

The inspirational Director of sports (FCAH&PT), Dr Oladapo Agbato welcome everyone to the Moor Plantation League 2025, he made it known that is indeed a vibrant celebration of athleticism, community, and purpose.

This year’s league brings together talent from across the region, igniting passion and unity on and off the field.

“It’s more than competition; it’s a platform for growth, health awareness, and social impact. Let the spirit of sportsmanship lead the way!”
