Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc feels Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata will be out of their price range this summer.
BVB are in the market for a new forward after the January departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal and Morata’s name has been mentioned as a possible target.
The Spain international moved to Stamford Bridge last summer for a reported club-record fee of around £60million but failed to hit the heights during his first season at the club.
A return of just 11 Premier league goals from 31 outings hardly leaps off the page and has prompted speculation that Chelsea might look to try and recoup some of their outlay by moving him on this summer.
However it seems as though Dortmund will not break the bank to sign the former Juventus man as Zorc is not prepared to bankrupt the club for any player.
“I’d still say that Morata is too expensive,’ he told Funke Media. ‘Without knowing the exact sums involved.
“Right now, I don’t rule out anything. Why should we limit ourselves 70 days before the window closes?
“I have the impression that the transfer market, not only for attackers, has escaped reality a bit. High fees are demanded.
“We must not do any crazy things. Even more so because we have players in our squad who can play that position and can score a certain number of goals, like Maximilian Philipp for instance.”
