Mourinho plans showdown talks with Man Utd chiefs

Jose Mourinho will hold an appraisal with Old Trafford chiefs later this week before heading away on holiday.

The Manchester United boss was in pragmatic mood following Saturday’s 1-0 FA Cup final defeat to his former club Chelsea at Wembley, which ensured the Red Devils ended the season empty handed.

Mourinho finished second in the Premier League – a big improvement on the previous year’s sixth-placed finish – yet still trailed champions Manchester City by a record-breaking 19 points.

The two Manchester giants will spend big again this summer but Mourinho is coming under increasing pressure to deliver the domestic title – having already spent over £300million since his arrival two seasons ago.

The Portuguese tactician retains the full backing of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, who will now sit down with Mourinho and owners the Glazers, to discuss Jose’s plans for taking the club back towards the pinnacle of English football.

Mourinho will be working at the World Cup as a pundit for a Russian TV station and is planning a short break with his family before the tournament gets underway, hence all the key players at United wanting to run the rule this week over the season just gone.
