Mourinho will guide United to success ―Essien

Jose Mourinho has been backed by Michael Essien to recover from his poor start to the season at Manchester United and ‘turn it around’.

The former Ghana international midfielder enjoyed success with Mourinho during their time together at Chelsea, winning Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup honours.

Essien also linked up with the Portuguese tactician when he was in charge of Real Madrid and the pair share a very good relationship.

The 35-year-old has been keeping tabs on Mourinho’s progress at Old Trafford and is disappointed to see him struggling as the side endured their worst start to a league season in 29 years and already look out of the Premier League title race.

United did give Mourinho some respite by storming back from two-down to defeat Newcastle 3-2 ahead of the international break.

When the Premier League resumes this weekend, United face a tough trip to Mourinho’s former club Chelsea, who sit level on points with leaders Manchester City.

And Essien firmly believes that Mourinho will get United back on the path to claim some more silverware.

He said: “There is such a great relationship between us. He is just a great manager and I know that he has been having a bit of a tough time in Manchester, but knowing him I think he is going to turn it around.

“I am backing him because I am still going to be his No.1 fan!

“I have to back him to turn things around and it is a difficult situation but I am sure that he can do it.

“You know that when you play under Mourinho, you know you are going to win titles. He has been at United for two or three years now and he has been winning trophies.

“This season seems a bit difficult now but the season is still long and they still have a lot of competitions to play.”

Punters hoping to use a free bet might fancy backing United to pick up an impressive win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
