Mousa Dembele a doubt for North London derby after suffering ankle injury in Leverkusen defeat

The Belgian midfielder was withdrawn during the first-half of the Champions League clash and confirmed he had twisted his ankle

Mousa Dembele is a doubt for Sunday’s North London derby after limping out of Tottenham’s defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

The Belgian midfielder was withdrawn during the first-half of the Champions League clash as Spurs were beaten 1-0.

It continued their disappointing run of results with Mauricio Pochettino’s men having now gone six games without a win.

Next up is a trip to fierce rivals Arsenal on Sunday, with Dembele now a major doubt after twisting his ankle.

The news comes as a major blow to Spurs, who are already without a number of key players.

Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane both missed the defeat to Leverkusen and face a race against time to be fit for the trip to the Emirates.

After the clash, Pochettino confirmed it would be “difficult” for Kane to play from the start.

The Spurs boss went on to insist playing at Wembley wasn’t an issue for his side, despite losing both of their matches there so far.

“We were poor and it was a bad result. There’s no excuse – it wasn’t the pitch and it wasn’t Wembley,” he said.

“We didn’t have energy and weren’t aggressive. The players are very disappointed but we need to be critical of ourselves.

“The only way to change it is to work hard and to analyse it to fix it.”
