Musa shouldn’t have left England ―Taribo West

Super Eagles legend, Taribo West has applauded Ahmed Musa’s decision to end his time on the bench at Leicester City following Tuesday’s confirmation by the Foxes that the Nigerian has left the club on loan.

According to a club statement by the Premier League side, ‘A deal has been agreed for Leicester City striker Ahmed Musa to re-join former club CSKA Moscow on loan until the end of the 2017/18 campaign.’

The 25-year-old forward who joined Leicester City in the summer of 2016 after spending over four years with the Russian club has struggled to get game time at the King Power outfit especially after the exit of Claudio Ranieri.

Reacting to the news of his return to Russia with CSKA, the ’96 Olympic gold medalist Taribo said he is happy Musa has taken the bold step to revive his career but feels the former Kano Pillars man should have worked on remaining in England where football is more competitive.

“I’m happy that he has moved on and that’s good for us as a country considering it’s a World Cup year and Musa is one of the players that should provide the spine for our squad to the World Cup.

“He needed to play football week-in week-out so I’m happy he’s left Leicester but his choice of CSKA in Russia is what worries me.

“I would have thought he’d stay back in England and find himself a club where he can play consistently, even if it’s in the second tier of English football. The game in England is more competitive than what he’ll get in Russia. Having said that, I want to wish him well as I look forward to having him on the Eagles’ plane to Russia. His experience will be key and we can’t afford to have such an experienced guy sit on the bench at club level.” Taribo West who starred for English sides Plymouth Argyle and Derby County told FCNaija.com.

The 67 capped Super Eagle who has found the net five times in 33 appearances for the Foxes – appearing most recently in a in 4-1 Carabao Cup win at Sheffield United last August will be eligible to feature in next month’s Europa League Round of 32 clash away to Red Star Belgrade in Serbia.
